St Teresa's Special School Curriculum

The children have the opportunity to experience all subjects in the National primary curriculum with the exception of Irish.

Pupils are supported in their learning through the use of Lámh, PECs, TEACCH, Social stories. We encourage the pupils to participate as independently as possible.

There are Individuas Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy programmes for the children throughout the day.

There is a Special emphasis on developing the independence of each child within their own ability. Therefore there is a focus placed on functional activities through the Social personal and health education programme.

Individual educational plans are drawn up for all pupils by the teaching staff in consultation with parents and the multi-disciplinary teams. These plans highlight personal and learning goals for the child for set periods of time.

Additional Award schemes

St. Teresa’s Special School is registered with ASDAN (Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network) who provide functional programmes for developing independence for young adults. The senior pupils can achieve certification for completing different modules in independent living and many other areas. You can vist the ASDAN website here. Please contact them for any further information you may require about them.

The Senior Class is currently working towards the Gaisce Awards.  We would like to thank Garbally College for their help with this project.
